    Posted: 02 Apr 2010 at 5:15pm
My friend bought what we thought was an AC G. It looks like a G, but it is powered by a 16 HP Kohler engine which is coupled directly to a hydraulic pump. It appears that the entire tractor is powered by this hydraulic pump. It has a gear shift and a left foot pedal, which when pushed down with the toes, it goes forward, when pushed down with the heel, it goes back. Does anyone know that AC made such a G? It appears to be "Factory" made, not homemade.
I am familiar with this power set up as I have a Terramite backhoe that is completely hydraulic.
                                                                   Thanks for helping

2 pictures attached, I hope...                             GGlynnD       Louisiana

A couple of companies made copies of the Allis G back in the 70's and 80's. I am not familiar with how they worked mechanically, but I would guess your friend has one of these. One was called a Hefty G, and was blue in color.

Joe,
That is it, thank you very much. The Kohler engine on this tractor was built in 1995-6.
This was prob the second one on this tractor. We still can't find the serial number. I will email the Tuff-Bilt factory in AL, they will tell me where it is.
Again thanks for the info, I was lucky to find you...Glynn D, Minden, LA

You know much to our sorrow, they stopped making the G in 1955.  However, it was so popular and adaptable for specific jobs here that many are still running cause they just can't get anything to do the job as well as the G does.
An excellent tractor that I was sorry to see go.
Good Luck!

In Fact, one of our Maryland Dealers sued Allis Chalmers - unsuccessfully - for discontinuing the G.
Good Luck!
