Hi Guy's, what do you use to clean out that thick old oil/sludge in the bottom of the transmission and rear end?

Jim,  When we cleaned out the 140 oil from the B's to install a hyd we would take a gallon of kerosene and run it for a little bit then re drain it.
That was back in the 40's and 50's.  I know there must be much better stuff out there now.
Let's see what the others say.
Good Luck!

You could pour some gas in there or get a gallon jug of Super Clean and do likewise, don't need to drown it just enough to thin it out til it flows easily. Let it sit for a few hours whatever you do and put the covers back on- Super Clean has a tendency to dry up if exposed and obviously gas will evaporate. You might have to stir up the sludge before draining to get it all.

I had that issue with my Oliver 60 when I put bearings in it's transmission. I have one of those small bench top parts washers. I set it on the floor under the drain hole and got a long piece of hose at the hardware store. Made it real easy to rinse and flush everything out that didn't belong in there. For solvent, I used mineral spirits.

I concur with Bill. Drain existing oil. Fill with kerosene and run it around for 20-30 minutes, then drain. Do not put it under load, just drive it around. HTH God Bless.
