I purchased this d17 in the fall and I noticed that it has 38inch rubber and seems to be a high crop. It is a gas engine and has a narrow front end with power steering. If anyone could help me learn what this is I would appreciate it. I can't post a picture because the file is too large but I can email you pictures if wanted.

What you likely have is a high clearance D-17. Is it dual narrow front wheels or single wheel? A high crop D-17 is real tall. You can email pictures and I can likely tell you more. there are four series of D-17's.  Email address is in my profile. Click on my name. Welcome to this forum.

Decent looking tractor.  Looks to be a 1959.  Did the narrow fronts have braces going back to the torque tube?

59 sounds about right. I looked up the serial number but wasn't sure if it was 57-59. It's defiantly series I. And those braces just bolt to the bottom of the bell housing below the fly wheel

I don't think a standard narrow front had any braces

The grill makes me think you'll find your serial number falls in this range:
Series I  -  Black Bar grill
1959     24001 – 28199
1960     28200 – 31625

Can you post some closeup pictures of the front end. Something going on there that I haven't seen before. It still has the brackets for the front mount cultivators.

Look at the high crop spacer under the front end...most original high crops have some sort of spacer in the spindles or under the front..Mark

There is a peice called the bearing holder that bolts onto the main front casting if you have a single front wheel on a D series tractor. The single front yoke is the same as for the WD-45. Since the 'spacer' appears to be similar to a bearing holder, I'm wondering if they are using the narrow front conversion that the WD-45's used when you mounted a corn picker on a wide front tractor. In that case the whole pedestal turns with the wheels. It would bolt together. The standard D series narrow front bolts directly to the main casting with the pedestal stationary and a shaft steers the wheels. I have some of each.
