I just bought a 33ft fifth wheel camper I already have a b & w gooseneck ball in my truck. Should I buy the B&W companion fifth wheel hitch or convert the camper to goose neck hitch. I was looking at the Gen Y fifth wheel to gooseneck hitch and I like the idea of not having the big fifth wheel hitch to take in and out.

I had an older heavy 5th wheel camper, $300 for the adaptor as opposed to $800 for the Companion, now brainer. People said it puts stress on the camper but I pulled it 2/3 the way across this country several times with no issues and see them used all over. You might have to add safety chains but still the cheaper route.

I have an Anderson conversion on our 5th wheel, camper weights a little over 10k empty, I love it, I've pulled it thousands of miles with no trouble. I have a flatbed on the truck so close the flap on the bed and no rails no 5th wheel, matter of fact we're out with it now. Yup go with the gooseneck ball hitch

Oops, one more thing, the Anderson conversion has a pull cable to unlock the hitch, that's the way to go,a good friend of ours bought one that the lock was a lever right down by the bed floor,he hooked up and put some garden tools in the box, good thing he had safety chains because a shovel or something else unlocked that lever going down the road ,the safety chains kept it from getting away from him, Anderson conversion is the way to go.

Check with Insurer, and the Camper producer. Stress of the added length is a REAL Problem in heavier fifth wheels and if any warranty remaining will void structural where cracking failures insurance may back away from.
I joined IRV2 forum where that has been a steady topic on damage. Edited by DMiller - 20 Sep 2022 at 7:49am |

Have a B&W Companion hitch for sale less the fifthwheel. Problem is I'm in Ontario. Have a truck with the factory puck setup now.

We've had them on the last two campers, never had an issue with either one, that's going back 19 years now and I have no idea how many miles, at the start of this conversation I drove around this park we're in now, pretty close to 50% of them converted to gooseneck hitch.
