Found this picture of grandpa raking hay this past summer on his CA.  He would rake hay in a tornado.

I like the contrast in your pic. You have the modern piece of machinery where the pic was taken from overlooking your venerable grandfather and his tractor from his era.  It's almost like looking back to the past.
Sure is nice to see a CA at work.

I love this picture!

The first job I was able to with Dad's CA was raking hay. I learned how to drive the CA by picking stones and pitching them into the bucket. That was in first gear! It was an open field and nothing to hit!

Then one day, Dad says I am going to learn how to rake hay!! I don't remember much other than that it took a lot of concentration to keep the tractor lined up with the hay ahead and how to turn at the corner. We also had the same New Holland rake and it did a great job.

It was probably the best job I liked on the farm. Out on an open field on a warm July afternoon with barn swallows swooping ahead trying to catch their next meal. What a pleasurable expierence.

I have a picture somewhere here showing my Dad raking with our D15. I'll just have to get it posted.

you mentioned a tornado, then I look at how the house is sitting in the background and for a minute there I thought.....never mind, I'm okay now.

I love it. My Grandad raked hay for me until he was 92. He is 97 now and he really misses running a tractor. In the picture, is he holding it in gear?

Creek and I must have been thinking the same thought!
I used to use my CA and NH rake too, may have to do it once this summer just for grins.
Thanks for posting the picture.
