went to work on Dads CA last night and the manifold at the carb flange was hotter than hell, my C's and B don't get this way. sprayed some carb cleaner around to see if it was sucking air but is wasn't. I don't recall manifold getting that hot before. anyone have an idea what might be the issue? thanks in advance

I would check the timing first thing and then probably let her rip.

Retarded timing will make exhaust hot.

As wbecker says. Needs some more timing advance. Retarded timing will make the exhaust manifold cherry red if you are working it hard. Not sure where you time the CA but someone will tell yu. On the WD45 there is inspection window underneath at clutch and marks on flywheel.

Timing should be covored in the op manual which i don't have. It might be found at:
http://grandpas-tractor-site.s3.amazonaws.com/manuals/ac How it works should be covered in the shop manual: http://geraldj.networkiowa.com/Trees/Allis-Chalmers-G-B-C-CA-Service.pdf Gerald J. |

If you static time it use the "DC" mark on the flywheel as seen through the hole on the left side of the torque tube.
If you have a timing light, adjust it while running to the "FIRE" mark on the fly wheel. |

timing is dead nuts, I just noticed that it gets hot. runs great, but I will check mixture after I get the final drive back on. replacing bull gear seal is a major pain in the butt.
thanks again
