The hand clutch on my CA is slipping badly, to the point of rendering the tractor unusable. What are my options?
Are parts available for a rebuild? Is it a simple rebuild or do I need a machine shop? Are there places available to send it out? Any good step-by-step rebuild videos? Other options? Thanks

how to get it apart...
--------------- do you use the clutch ?... another option is to delete the clutch or bolt it up solid to eliminate it ..... some have done that ... Im not for or against... just an option.

Since you state your CA Hand / Axle Clutch is slipping, the first thing I would try to do is adjust the Clutch Clearance. You can adjust the Axle Clutch as it wears from use just like you would adjust a 'Foot Clutch' as it wears. Haven't done this for many years, but from what I remember there is a retaining bolt situated down in the Axle Housing and in the Clutch Assembly next to the Hand Lever. As I recall you just loosen this retaining bolt 2 or 3 turns ( 9/16 socket} This bolt locks the 'sprocket appearing' adjustment collar in place once the proper 0.05" clearance has been obtained. You can see this Bolt in Steves Link above Posted at 10:16 of some pictures. It is the one referred to as 'here's what fell out of the housing' In the previous picture to the Screw, you can see this .sprocket appearing' collar. As I remember you loosen the 'retaining / locking screw, then using a large flat blade screw driver, insert the blade in between 2 teeth and pry sideways to turn the collar. Here is a Link to a previous Allis Forum Post (2016) on how to adjust the Axle Clutch to get the proper Clearance. https://www.allischalmers.com/forum/hand-clutch-adjustment-ca-need-help_topic123846.html Hope this helps in adjusting the Clutch. Gary If you decide you don't want the Axle Clutch, you can remove it entirely and replace it with a good used axle the same as the Axle on the opposite side. |
