I have a 1948 C with a later CA fuel tank (starter bump). I have a few questions about the set up. I attach a picture from CA parts book. My extension stub (item#6) is hex shaped for a wrench, others I see in net pictures are round, needing a pipe wrench to screw in. Parts book picture looks round. Is mine original or a kludge? When I painted it years ago, I tried to unscrew it, but it was tight. I gave up, didn't want to rip it off the tank. Is that boss welded on, brazed or soldered? Not that I want to take it off, just want to know. Has anyone had one broken off? The sediment bowl, Allis didn't use a mesh strainer tube on the end of the sediment bowl assy., correct? Any reason to add one? Which brings me back to the extension tube, does anyone know the clear through diameter in it? My shut off valve is leaking I will be taking it off to repair or replace. The bowl assembly was original to the C, not the replacement CA tank. Thanks for any advice. ![]() |

None of my sediment bowls use strainer tubes. If you keep the tanks clean and use fresh gas, you will not have any need for them.

On B and C I think there is a strainer where the line goes into the carb. Looks similar to B and C tank and if that tank fitting is still there you have something difficult to find, I have looked all over and finally changed to what plumbing fittings I could make work. Close but not same as original.

I added a 2" section of brake line to 'Troy' here, keeps the water and tust out of the sediment bowl.

Your much better off without a screen or tube inside tank. Keep the fuel clean the screen in the sediment bowl is easy to cleen should you need to. When i took the sediment bowl out of the tank on my 190 a previos owner had installed 2" stand off tubes to keep crudin the tank this means i had 2" of crud and rust in the bottom of the tank. I drained nearly 5 gallons of water out of the tank. The bottom 2" of the tank is rusty i e pulled the tank to clean it after fighting with rust plugging. Mo e of my other tractor have ever had s problem. My wife left my C out in the middle of the yard when i was deployed. It quit. Had hot water in it. Remove the sediment bowl drain the water and crank it up. No tube in yank the lowesy point drains all yhe water out.

As designed, the tank does drain pretty completely, making it easier to flush the tank. My tank is staring to make junk, not so bad, but if it clogged the stem of the fuel bowl assembly (before the screen) I could be Forded (stranded). So I found new fuel bowl assemblies here and will replace the old leaky one. No attempt will be made to install a strainer screen or standpipe. I will measure the diameter of the through hole in that tank extension just so I know.

The earlier extensions were round, later were hex. I don't know exactly what year - would have to do some research to say for sure, but think in the late 1940s.
