  I just got a C from an Uncle, while driving it home it kept "darting" from one side of the road to the other. I suspected the axle was leading the vertical shaft instead of trailing, it was, so I turned it around. When I took it for a test ride it started a pretty violent "shimmy or headshake" at less than half throttle in high gear. The tires are new, but a little oversized at 5.00-15, 32 psi. I did notice that it has 2 different spindle hubs, one is about 3/8" shorter than the other and the inside of the tires "kiss" with weight on them.
  What do I need to do to stop the shimmy or headshake?

Start by replacing or adjusting wheel bearings. Then jack the tractor up and find out where the most slop is, front end, linkage, or gearbox. Go from there.

 When I had it up in the air, the bearings seamed tight, but I didn't check in depth, because my Uncle said he replaced them. The steering box is sloppy and stiff (more than I think it should be). I will check the bearings as you suggest and take a look at the box.
  Is anyone out there using the same size tri-rib tires and do they cause any issues?
  I have the IT service manual and from previous experience with that brand of manual it seems like there is just enough information in it to make you dangerous. I like a more detailed manual. I see some on e-bay that look more like a dealer issue. Does anyone have a preference on a good set (operators,parts and service)?

For a good copy of an original Allis manual, go to the top of this page and click on Allis Store. If you buy one there you will be helping support this site and get a proper manual that is readable. I have seen some of the reproductions off epay and you can't even read the words let alone make out what the picture is supposed to be.
