 Topic: Boy Running My CA Tonight

The boy learned about the snap coupler system tonight...hooked and unhooked a few of them to get the idea. He wanted to use the field cultivator and wondered how it worked so we hooked up and he did good. Had to move the seat to the front hole...on this tippie toes. Ha!

Ah yes, that brings back memories. When I first got my B it was a real stretch to reach the clutch. On the bright side, it was easy to engage once I got my leg stretched far enough. Grandpa's 4020 on the other hand...I could reach the pedal on that one fairly easy, but it seemed to take the strength of 3 legs to push the pedal down! At least for a little fella...
He looks like he's having fun! Keep being a great father! Y'all will be sure to make a ton of memories!

When I was a bit younger than your son Dad stuck me on his model C and since moving the seat forward was not and option he made up another clutch pedal that mounted further back and worked the OEM pedal via a rod that attached to it. It was possible for Dad to use the OEM pedal and me to use the one he made up. When I got old enough to reach the factory one he removed his contraption and hung it in the barn where it remained until I got tired of looking at it and threw it away. A few years after that my youngest had his very own model B and had same issue so I had to make up another one. Son is 26 now but wont throw that one away  . I am not a safety nark but it is a whole lot safer for the young ones to operate a tractor when they can declutch it without standing on their tip toes,,,

Brings back memories of myself on Dad's C. I started fitting ground when I was 8 but had been being let drive the C thu gates and in the barn yard as soon as I could start and stop the tractor.

I was 10, learned on a Cockshutt 50 with a pull type plow. Came to the end of the line pulled the trip rope, the wheel slid. Could not hit the clutch fast enough, hit the fence, could not back up with the plow in the ground. Had to go get help. Learned how to fix fence that day also.

That is a great picture of your son operating the tractor! He is paying attention to what he is doing and ready to stop at a moments notice. Nice tractor too!
When we were old enough to pull the hand clutch in on a WD or 45 we were ready to do some small jobs on the farm. First tractor I remember driving was a Case VA. Not sure how I reached the pedals? Keep doing things with him and teaching him how things work!

I learned to drive on a CA, it was all I could do to push the clutch all the way in, mowed many acres of hay with a cycle bar mower on the CA.

The first tractor I drove was a B and then my Dad bought a new CA that I drove, my son learned to drive the CA and my grandson who is 12 now started to drive the CA at age 6. I still have the 1955 CA, grandson will be the 4th generation to drive the CA.

Ha yep! Well he has a narrow front pin style with a hole in the block. Got a running motor hanging from the picker. Now to find time to get it in is the thing. Good project during a blizzard.

Boy does that bring back memories. During WWII when the men were gone and Pop was trying to survive with a limited amount of equipment being available he had me working when I came home from school and in the summer. I could easily see myself on a B or C moving it off the flat car or around the shop. WC's had too strong a clutch for me to push and the hand brakes were a little to complicated for me so I did not use them. You son's face shows heavy concentration on what he was doing. Looks like me on a B or C 68 years ago. Give him my very best. Keep us apprised of how he is getting along on the CA and wish him the very best. He has a friend in Maryland Good Luck! Bill Long
