 Topic: biodiesel gunk in fuel tank

So my MM Vista G1000 aka "Big Mo Nasty" has been sitting for 2 years with bio-diesel in the tank waiting for me to replace a scored piston. I'm currently working on getting it back up and running and need to get the gunk out of the tank. Any suggestions? Its a 52 gallon tank with a fill hole the size off a WD or D17 so there isn't a whole lot of room to work with there.

without knowing/seeing the tractor....
could you use one of those 'diesel fuel' rated 12 volt 'transfer' pumps to suck it out into TWO 45 gallon drums ?
I might be tempted to siphon it but... a pump sounds a whole lot better and safer !

I already pumped all the fuel out but the gunk which is like sticky tar is stuck to the bottom.

I have used a steam cleaner to wash out fuel tanks before. You also could try some E85. It's eats Biodiesel growth. I got a few injection pumps to work again after running E85 through them. Matt

I done this on an XT last winter, put a few gallons of lacquer thinner in it, slosh it around, let set a few days then power wash it out,, be good as new

Get a "SMALL" can of carb and choke cleaner, spray a little bit into the tank and let drain. Instant gratification .

I used E 85 on a Hesston crawler (Fiat) tank, took several batches but finally got it clean. Learned the hard way to only use bio diesel in the summer and then run off road diesel for the last couple tanks. Or drain the tank at the end of the season before it has a chance to gunk up. Good luck!
