Elbow work, shoulder injections, having left the last job pretty abruptly, then the old Dachsy started. Odie been going downhill for a few years since developed pancreatitis from a bad feed diet we were giving him. Dachshunds cannot digest pork even as dearly love bacon or fryings their pancreas goes into overload and it kills them. So we saved him from that, been on a special Chicken based diet and pretty strict, lost weight was perky awhile then age stepped in. Going deaf and blind at about the same rate, deaf as a post while still very anxious outside when dark as to noises at any value. Blind enough can no longer see a field rabbit twenty feet off the front porch in spotlamp light.
Worst came to worse over last couple weeks, puking yellow bile pretty often, has a Kennel Cough hack and hack ups getting worse, then the mistakes. Used to not get up during night after wife went to bed, had begun doing that and relieving himself on living room floor or rugs, then began pooping same. I try to get up as he would get off bed as not all that quiet at it, a few times could not coax outdoors and watched as he relieved looking directly at me. He sleeps a lot, five to six hours at a time, awake long enough to relieve then back to sleep on bed or couch and now on floor as suits. Is sixteen going on seventeen where has problems with arthritis can barely get up or down, falls often, misses edge of couch or bed and falls off adding to pains. Vet and I spoke just at three months ago as to his walking to a wall and locking out much as Moscow Mitch, takes a sharp noise as a clap or a foot stomp to dislodge him, her take onset dementia. The lockouts are increasing, Sis in law was out and complained as to why we would consider putting him down then locked out in front of her and as they sat on couch later pooped on her. She agreed it is time for their Mother's last vestige of home to pass away gently. We go to the vet tomorrow afternoon, he will not come home. Sad days.

Prayers that God will get you through this rough spot in the road. I agree it has been a tough time. Even though they are family there comes a time when the kindest thing we can do is help them to cross the rainbow bridge so they are no longer suffering.

That's a damn hard thing to do but sometimes it has to be done. My condolences. We did that a few years ago and she swore we'd never do that again. Have a 15 yo black lab with congestive heart trouble. Vet said she'd be gone a year ago. Don't know how she does it. Tough times ahead, stay strong

He is officially at rest now, Vet aid listened as administered the propofol, his heart stopped before the injection to stop it. The vet has suspicion he had advanced heart disease with the severity of coughing he would do. Was his time, and we are without a fur baby first time in nearly 39 years.

Sorry to hear of your loss, pets become family, gonna be tuff the first few days while you adjust, remember the good times and go visit the neighbor's dog to get your temporary pet fix, not the same but it has helped us in the past at loosing a good dog.
