I have a 190xtd that I've been working on. When i bought the tractor it had no brakes.  The guy I bought it from gave me 2 spare brake assemblies he had laying around (used).  I have a friend that had a 190 years ago and he said he had to replace the brakes almost every year. I don't think the ball and ramp way of appling the brakes is a very good idea.  Seems like once you apply the brakes the ball runs up the ramp and would be kinda wedged there until you would back up to release the tension. I don't know, maybe those little springs have enough strenght to fight the friction to pull the disk back so the balls aren't on the ramp.

What are you experiences with the ball and ramp design brakes?

Had my 180 brakes rebuilt when a adjuster rod broke in  the housing, they replaced both side seals and relined one side stating the other was fine.  I have used this tractor for four years, three since the brake job and no issues in the rolling hills of central Missouri with the brakes.

I've got 4 tractors with that type of brake, and have had good luck with them. My D19, I restored over 15 years ago including a complete brake rebuild, and after all these years of a fair amount of use, they still work good. My 190 gas has the same brakes I bought it with, and they work good. Both my 190 XT and my D 21 are waiting for brake rebuilds, but it's not a bad job to rebuild them. Any questions or concerns, contact me. Darrel
