Got's some from the local independent owned station last week. Was making delieverys, stopped and filled up, had less than 1/4 tank. I left town and immediately noticed the mpg gauge went from 23.6 mpg down to 17.3 mpg. Thought I might have a flat tire. Stopped and walked around the pickup. When I got behind it, the exhaust stunk so bad I had to walk away from the rear of the truck. The guys get their gas straight from the pipe line. I wonder what they had been pumping thru the line before the load of gas? Apparently didn't get it cleaned out. Truck was running back up to 23.4 on convience store gas today.

The 'contractor' filled up his Dodge diesel PU with 'cheaper' fuel, maybe 20c/gallon. Well his truck limped home, had it towed to service, $1000+ later, tank, filter and lines, etc. were cleaned out. Yup he got a DEAL on cheap fuel ! |

Tank farms are FULL to the rim right now, they are having to deal with longevity of gas they have not for some time. Current 'Reformulated' or even the newly developed sour crude oil forced refining has a Short life in storage as we have all seen where that does equate back to the stored fuel at the refineries. To make it usable in the short term they blend Old distillates with fresh to 'extend' the life cycle while that is at a cost. Cannot add more additives or stabilizing agents to hold it as the current refining process produces a unstable compound that seeks to reclaim a stable less desirable form.
The only other aspect they can do is sell all they currently have, produce MUCH less, store unrefined crude oil wherever they can to use that as little as possible to keep stored refined products levels limited. And yes, that has begun. |

I thought this was going to be about the burritos at the gas station, not the gas itself...
