Hey guy's.
New in this section, been around the AC forum awhile though. Mainly stay in the Varmint section and tractors. Looking for a used backhoe around 10k for personal use around my squatting quarters. I was advised from another section to come here for advice on what to get. I don't know much about about these but know about tractors/mechanical in general and can make most anything work. Just don't want a money pit right off. Something very usable, don't have to be 'pretty' just work. Got any suggestions on brands etc. Just need a loader and a hoe. Something adaptable to a thumb on the hoe would be good or not, I could make it work. Might be a little vague, but I need a starting point. |

I have a 715 AC. When you get one, you will wonder why you didn't have one long ago.

I have an old international that I use. Very handy to have. For what your willing to spend I would look for a case 580 with ext hoe. There were a lot made. Very easy machine to operate . Trick is to find one that is a good one. Most used in construction are wore out. Take your time. There are good ones for sale. just got to find one.

I have a 1984 Case 580D that I bought a few years ago. They were the Cadillac of backhoes back in the day. I got lucky to find one that was very well maintained and not beaten up - there are lots of junkers out there. It's a great machine to operate and I am getting good at using the hoe with the levers and foot pedals. Parts are easy to find and they are pretty easy to work on.

I have an International TBL. It digs really great but the backhoe is too large for the farm tractor. It is very dangerous to move up hill. I have to put weight in the loader bucket to keep the front wheels on the ground. Avoid a hoe with rack and pinion swing.
If you are going to use your hoe in rough terrain make sure you are comfortable driving it over rough terrain. Look for a construction machine rather than a farm tractor with a backhoe. |

I still have that 615 AC hoe that was on my HD4 out back - detachable hoe 14' dig - 24" bucket - control valves 2 stick . (would like to sell it)
It was heavy on the HD4 and with hoe on it rode on rear sprockets rather than track - needed a bucket of material to balance - dug fine but just travel was a problem . The AC 715B I bought to replace it had 2000 hours on it and was a municipal machine so had all the records from it along with spare parts they had in their stockroom . That machine also in 14' but with a Digmore-Extenda hoe so will go to 17 1/2 ft depth Some parts from the 615 hoe interchange onto the 715 .

Take your time and you will find a good one. Saw lots of junk before I found mine. Very straight, not banged up, engine does not smoke and had 4 new tires for $12000 Canadian. I replaced most of the hydraulic hoses, had the injector pump rebuilt and put a new battery on it. No problems at all. It's real easy to dig out tree stumps now! ![]() |

Looking at a Ford/New Holland 555E.
From what I have seen they look pretty decent I guess. What you have there D would be ideal. |

Depending on area that Ford 555 was popular here in MN and areas around but the Case 580 series were in other areas and South .
When I bought my AC 715B it was $9200 but a Ford 555 of same year was over $18000. AC machines were not that well known in many areas as not a large dealer network carried them . By dividing the AC line over 3 different dealers AG , Industrial , Construction it limited exposure .
