I did the same thing to a MTD 960 with a 14hp Briggs. As I recall, it was 3/4" pipe. Seems like the muffler was for an 'A' Farmall. I just went to the tractor muffler section at the local Runnings and went through their selection til I found one with the right inlet to fit the pipe.

1" pipe threads in block. And you can add a elbow and larger diameter pipe sized to muffler you get.

You need to add some sort of brace to support the extra weight/leverage of that stack. If not it can over time damage the threads in the engine block.

ok do you think I can come over from the chrome piece on the front where there is a predrilled hole (probably for headlights) with a piece of steel welded to a hose clamp? and if not where would you mount the support?

Yes that would work. We don't have any on ours, but it doesn't get run much.

Most guys run a support over from one or two of the head bolts.  Our TSC has piles of them here.  I'm not a fan and always yank them off tractors I buy and try to get folks to take them when they visit
