OK, finally back to the 'project' and I've lost the PTO tensioning parts. I have drawings of what I need BUT there's NO way a 56" belt is long enough. small pulley is 2 3/4" big one is 10". Can anyone confirm what size belt(width and length) I really need. Any help is appreciated ! Jay

Hey Jay
Did you ever get an answer? I happened by mine the other day and noticed the belt was still with it. The info on the belt was quite clear. Goodyear 85960 ( 5L960 ) B93F Hope this helps Gary |

sadly no I KNOW that a 5L630(63") is too long, and 60 is too short. Hopefully I get a 62" belt next week just another 'half-done' projects and dang leaves are starting to fall..shhhhhhh.... Jay

OK. got a 62" belt.... now I need to know just HOW do I adjust the 'PTO lever/tensioner setup ? I made the rod/spring/arm stuff but after 3 hours no closer to a proper solution.... I suspect with lever 'back-down' , that's off, with lever 'up-forward' it'd be on can someone please confirm this or send a link as to HOW it's adjusted ? many thanks if you can... I really, really want to USE this nice machine BEFORE 'you-know-who' decides to get his 'machine' up and running !! Jay

problem is not enough tension AND no 'disengaged'

Belt is either inside out AND/OR too wide to begin with. It doesn't look like it is down inside the pulleys at all like it should be. That right there would make the correct length belt run too tight thus not disengage.

According to what I've read is supposed to be a 5L (5/8) belt, which makes sense from a 'power transfer' point.I found one drawing with '5L' on it ... I know it can't be smaller or longer (63 is too loose, 61 too tight ) |

So it won’t tighten up properly and won’t fully disengage ether. Are the pulleys factory. The disengagement could be the belt guide. I think we have a nos belt. I’ll try to find it to see what it looks like

rear pulleys are factory from the pictures I've seen front is 2 3/4" ,someone were gave that size. once ground dries up a bit, I can retest it. It won't 100% disengage(tiller still spins ) Haven't seen anything about how to adjust the 'tensioning' lever/spring/handle unit. will try without the belt guide also need to get furnace in garage hooked up too...

Mine will still spin also when disengaged if the tiller is raised but it stops immediately if I put the tiller down onto the ground. I think that is still normal. So, is yours also stopping (belt slipping/burning) with the lever engaged with the tiller down??

yes, dirt stops it rotating and forward motion of the tractor I don't like the idea it's spinning all the time for safety reasons, spinning stuff - hands, yuck.....

So, tiller down on the ground with pto engaged and it still stops the blades??? Which belt is slipping/burning??? The pto engage lever only provides tension for the big belt from the BGB to the big pulley. The smaller belt is always under full tension adjusted by the t-bolt adjuster on top of the tiller.

yes, the big belt/tension lever setup is the problem, not the small belt.
