I came home tonight and the boy was blading the road. Told me if you get the tractor on a 10 degree hill, it will die... No way i said. I idles perfect. I bladed up and down the road 1/4 mile, but he is right... back up a small hill and set and within 10 seconds it starts to sputter and die... coast down the hill and once at the bottom it picks up and runs fine ?? Guess i will check the gas tank ppickup, the rebuild the carb... but it runs so good on the level !!

Try it with a full tank of gas. If the problem goes away, you'll know what's going on.

Hmmm...
Check the bottom of the air filter... see if you have a chunk of ice floatin' around in there... I had that happen on my B last year...

Check that filter in the glass bowl that filters the gas from the tank. Hopefully you have the same set up as I do on my D-12. It gave me fits for about a year until I replaced the whole thing. It started all of a sudden when pulling a 10 degree hill just like your rig.

Pulled the bottom of air cleaner. NIce cup of oil, no problem. Pulled the sediment bulb, minor trash inside, gasket torn, installed new cork and reassembled. Pull gas line off carburetor, opened petcock and checked flow, good. Pulled carburetor and disassembled. Minor sediment in bowl. Cleaned out, blew out pass ways, reassembled. GAsket to manifold was torn, built a new and installed carb. Fired up and runs great. ?????

Your problem is probably gas, but I had a car that would do about the same thing. Going down hill it would sputter. Level road or uphill it ran fine. Coil was mounted horizontal and pointing forward. Found the coil wire was loose. Downhill and it would move out just enough to run rough.

I GOT IT!
A 10-degree hill is just too warm! When you get it to a zero-degree hill, I'll bet it'll be fine!!!!

Delighted to hear things are back to battery again.
You know, gas is a funny thing. We had a lot of problems even when they were new. The worst was a rag in the tank.

Unhook the fuel line from the carburetor and then take out the inlet adapter and see if the screen is clogged. That will restrict fuel flow, I've seen it so clogged it wouldn't pass 60 psi air.
