I have a coupla sets of 3 1/4" cast pistons that were take outs for 3 3/8" sleeve piston kits. I bought a C that the engine had been taken apart  and had been is an out shed for years and had a new sleeve piston kit in a box that had the cast iron pistons.
I used the 3 3/8" cast pistons in a different tractor because I had them. I personally would not pay extra for cast iron pistons but there is nothing wrong with using them.

I wonder if the cast iron pistons would be a lower compression ratio than the aluminum? When I rebuilt my CA it had aluminum pistons. The block was cracked so I got another block that was supposed to have been on a C. It had the cast iron pistons in it. Seems like I read in Swinford's book that aluminum pistons were used to bump up the compression a little in the CA.

Brian, I have two three different cast iron pistons. The one is a crater which was for the all fuel and another that on top dead center that does not come to the top of the block deck for the same reason. The 3 3/8" cast pistons I put in came all the way to the top of the deck. If both pistons come to the top of the deck there would not be a difference in the compression from the different materals. I also removed a set of aluminum pistons that did not come to the top of the deck at top dead center which made them an aluminum all fuel piston.  The compression pressure reading comes from the volume of air compressed into a space. A smaller space would increase the compression pressure reading as well as a longer stroke ot larger piston size. Materals used would not make any difference.
