Hi all,
My new '49 C has a different starter than my '48 C. I know my '48's is a Delco-Remy because of it's tag,
But the one on the '49 is missing the tag,
And the starter button and rod for that matter.
From the slight differnces between the two, and the little reading I have done, I think it is an Autolite starter? It's slightly longer, has a different rear end, has slightly different starter button mounting holes, and the tag WAS on the band on the rear of the starter.
Does this positively ID it as an Autolite?
And if so, does anyone here carry the starter buttons for it?
And as for the starter rod and pivot "kidney bean" shaped part, are they the same for both types of starters?
Anything else I need to know about these starters?
Anyone have a good pic of a correct Autolite starter setup?
Thanks for the help and info!

If it's the autolite I'm thinking of, there is a strap that runs on the outside of the starter that prevents you from using the delco starter buttons. Other than that, not much difference. Don't know that anyone has found replacement starter buttons for the autolites. They usually modify the delco buttons.

I have a autolite starter on a Model B. The starter button did not work and I wanted a replacement but could not find one. I took the starter button off, took it apart and shined up the contacts, bent one so it had better contact, then put it back on and it worked and still is . I guess I lucked out.

The Brillman Co. has switches for the Autolite starters. Â You will have to call and ask, as I don't hink they are shown on the web site. Â They are spendy though...

Yes they use the same rod and pivot but it has to be the right year some push some pull. I had an autolite starter rebuilt and it was very pricey. I ground a slot on a delco starter switch and made it work but I recomend find a delco starter.
