Nobody hit the nail on the head, I paid $30 for it.  I think there was a lull in the auction, this was in a box, auctioneer  was not opening the boxes.  My guess is that people wanting a wood lathe thought it was a metal lathe, and vice-versa.  I remember that the last time I had been to a HF store, the price was near to $500 for the mini metal lathe.  Equalizing effect ti that this auction had no cell phone reception, so that even those with internet phones were as blind as I was...Wink

Wow, congrats. Not to detract from it but saw a YT video where these have plastic gears in the transmission. His video was on making new gears for it. Might be worth a look

Hooked it up today, it was all there.  Has a idjit shield on it, along with a safety switch.  I havent ever come close to mangling anything, working with a lathe, so that was the one piece I didn't attach!  Tried turning a bushing down a little with the 5/16 tooling I bought offa another auction-goer for $10.  5/16 tooling sits a little high on center, so tomorrow I'm a goin to put a penny under the back end of the cutting bit.  If that don't make it cut better, I guess I'll have to dig around and see if I have any 1/4" tooling...Wink

Dave, you probably know you can buy high speed , carbide tip, or carbide insert type cutters......... Here is a very economical set of carbide tip tools for $20.  Most of these things are made in CHINA... but the price is right... Left, right, center cutters... a variety........... i have a similar set ( 1/2 inch ) that i have used for 20 years.

Found a box with 2  1/4" bits in it, pulled a real nice couple shavings offa that bushing!  Didn't have a 1/4" cut off bit, so I used a 5/16" bit and stuck a dime under the back end of the bit, cut it off nice, too!  So far so good.  Not gonna build any model motors or nuthin fancy, so its good enough for me!Wink

Dave, you got a smokin' deal on the lathe.   Take a look on the net for quick change tool posts for it.   I bought a set for about $100 and found another set on Marketplace for $25.  There are some on febay as well.   Makes setup a lot faster!!   Merry Christmas!!  Armand

Got the first project done with it, today.  Put the bushing on a hole saw cutout, replaced the center bit with the cutout and bushing, as a centering jig to cut some bigger holes in a couple sets of lawnmower blades I got for cheap, this fall.  Height of the cutting bit is off a little, gets more noticeable as the object you are turning gets smaller.  I'll fix that with a shim on the next project...Wink
