has anyone installed a calc-an-acre on a 4wd? I bought one from shoup for our old horse with no speed sensor. how many magnets did u use if so?

I installed dozens of these years back on the Tobacco harvesters we made. I think we used 6 magnets on a torque hub. 5 or 6 will work as you put the calc into a program mode and drive the distance after installed onto machine over a measured distance. This will calibrate the unit to the actual speed.

The more you use the more acurate it will be. I put one on my Kawasaki Mule and found that 2 magnets were not enough to measure accurately. I went to 8 and that solved the problem, I'm now accurate to .2 foot. If you can put them on the hub at least 4 will give you a decent reading.
