I have a carburator off a B that looks like it sat with water in it that I want to rebuild. I haven't attampted to take it apart yet but the brass pieces look like they are probably corroded in.

Are there any tricks you can offer that will increase my chances of getting them out without stripping them?

I have put a small bolt or piece of rod in them if they have any recess, heat it cherry red and let the heat transfer, I usually put a drop of Gibbs or such on the edge and let it pull it into the threads as it cools, once or trice usually does it.

Just a note that any screw slot on a carburetor requires a perfectly fitted screwdriver. Good luck.

Dick L posted (long ago) that he boils the carburetor. I tried it myself. I used a hot plate left over from our kitchen renovations a few years ago. I fill an old pan with water, remove the bowl from the carburetor and remove the float. Everything except the float goes in the water and I bring it to a rolling boil for a few minutes. 

When I am done boiling, I have everything ready to disassemble when it comes out of the water. As soon as I can handle it with gloves on, I take it apart.

Works for me!

Only try the impact tapping if you have a tight fitting screwdriver. Tight fitting is just that, blade fills the entire slot like it wedges in there before turning.

I'll have to try the boiling trick.

Mostly just need a good cleaning of all the passages and float valve replaced plus float setup.

Takes less than nine months sitting with ethanol fuel to puddle water and corrode, even with fuel additives. Need to find nonethanol station and/or premium grade.

impact is WAY to big for these screws...you will twist the head off....Boil the carb, maybe a little soapy water... then get a GOOD FIT screwdriver as mentioned..
Like them all, but love the "B"s.

How do you get the emulsion tube out? I can't get a socket on it.

I use a thin wall, 6 point  5/16 deep socket to get the emulsion tubes out.

They can be turned down in a lathe with carbide insert(s); I've done many

My favorite method, is to fill an ultrasonic cleaner about 3/4 full of distilled water, then place carbeurator parts in a ziplock bag, pour in some distilled water 'till the bag is about half full, drop in a teaspoon of dishwasher soap crystals, zip it shut, and lower it into the ultrasonic cleaner.  The bag will float, but the parts will be submerged.  The contents of the bag will be separated from the cleaner's water by the plastic bag.

Turn the cleaner on, include heat, and let it sing for a few hours.

When you lift it out, you'll find the bottom of the bag full of all sorts of fine debris.

Remove the carb parts, rinse them off with tap water, then put a tight fitting screwdriver in the slot, tap on the back of the screwdriver with a small hammer, to apply a little shock to the screw, and then turn it out by hand.

Frequently, tapping won't even be required, they'll just back out.  The jamming material is a combination of dirt, and products of electrolysis brought on by time and impurities, and if there's ethanol in the fuel, it will be substantially accellerated in electrolysis products.

Ten Amendments, Ten Commandments, and one Golden Rule solve most every problem. Citrus hand-cleaner with Pumice does the rest.
