I've got a chance to buy an 8070 FWA, with the motor out of it (it broke a rod bolt and put a rod throught the block) for $8500. Sounds kind of steep, but supposedly has 80% tires on the back and 90% on the front, had the power shift gone through not long ago, cab kit, and is supposed to be pretty nice. Couple questions; #1 If I took the engine out of my burned up 8050, would it go right in and thus have an 8050 FWA, or is there something more to it. #2 Would it be wiser to find and rebuild an engine to the 8070 specs, and how costly would that get? 3# should I find a used engine for it #4 what's it worth when done? #5 any other thoughts on it what so ever? Thanks for any input Darrel

I think the 8070 has the fluid balancer on the end of the crank like the 7080. Engine will probably fit but it probably wont have the 171 hp..

If the engine didn't get to hot in the fire. It should fit right in. Depends on what it was putting out for hp in the 8050. Would you get the pump injecter and intercooler with the bad 8070 motor? If the rest of the 8070 is ok other than switching motors it could be a good deal.

Not sure on 8070, but on 7060 and 7080 they had a slower rear end. This is due to higher engine rpm's. Engine would slide in and fit, might have a slower tractor. I would be tempted to buy it. Would be a cheap tractor. I think 8070 fwa sell for 15-25,000.

My 8050 is running 10% over stock with the new injection pump so should be 165hp approx. I wouldn't hesitate to stick the 8050 engine in the 8070 at all, it will last longer turning slower in my opinion anyway. It would make you a good tractor for the money.

Unless you need all the power you can get, putting the 8050 engine in it would work well, I think. I think the crank is different in the two motors, but the rest is pretty similar. The rear end should be pretty well the same, but the 8070 has a bigger 3pt and PTO like the 7080, the speeds should be the same, not counting the 8070's engine turned 100 RPM faster. Like MI8050 said, you could turn the pump up and get pretty close to the stock numbers of the 8070. If you need more power, you might try looking for a junked N6.

the 8070 FWA has the same speed rear as all 8050's.2WD 8070's switched to same(faster) gearing @ser# 2662. your 8050 engine will be a simple bolt in.just leave it alone and have a good HD 8050 FWA .stick your side panels on it and no one will know the difference.should be able to swap the 2-speed pto also.
