Up here in ND i think were 3 weeks away maybe more on all the flooded areas, any of you south goin yet.

Plowed a section of the food plot before it rained. another week of waiting before it's dry enough again. WD45's in for restoration so i got stuck useing a IH 460. Never liked the looks of the controlls, now I know why. Luke

i know my neighbor got some peas for seed in in jan he has enough tire on his tractors to float across the mud. if we get a break spring wheat will be going in. i flailed my timothy and alfalfa down today to try and move harvest back a couple weeks in hopes of better weather. snowed on all the hills around me last night

We planted about 7800 onions last weekend. I chisel plowed, then tilled about 2 acres for a Hmong family today....they like to plant some of their crops real early. I think we are at least a week out before we plant peas. I am going to lay black plastic over some of my beds and try to get some early radishes, lettuce and carrots....corn and green beans will start the end of the month. We have had a lot of rain, but our soil drains well. I can usually get in the fields a day after a half inch rain.

Most of the early veggies have been planted, some a month ago. I planted the last of the spring wheat and barley about a week ago. Just no moisture. Got maybe a tenth of an inch Sunday night. The winter wheat is greening up but it's been so windy that the wheat shoots are yellowing. Maybe someday it will rain, or even snow!

Someone called in to a Rockford, IL radio station for a song request yesterday from his tractor cab, said he was seeding oats. Could have done that here, but we got some rain again last night.

About three weeks before I plant my field corn and soybeans (gotta finish those planter updates this weekend). It did feel good to till the garden and plant peas, onions, and carrots yesterday, though.

Just a kid here with some crazy ideas, and I have a couple questions.
Whats the going price for a bag of corn, bag of soy beans, non-round up ready?
How many bags per acre does it take for each, Corn with wide rows (for corn picker) 36"+. Soy beans row cropped.
Just trying to calculate some cost. thanks

Don,
Conventional soybeans should cost around $25-$30 per unit, which in rough estimation would plant about 1 acre. Convetional corn should be in the $125 to $150 range and plant about 3 to 4 acres. My price numbers are estimates and could vary widely. The amount of seed needed depends on soil type, location, fertility, and many other factors. I plant soybeans in 30" rows, approx. 150000 to 180000 seeds to the acre. I plant corn at about 28000 seeds to the acre. A standard unit of seed corn has 80000 kernels. Soybeans are a little tricky, depending on who you buy from. The beans I buy come in 150000 seed units, some brands are sold by the pound making it harder to estimate how much seed one needs for a given acreage. I hope this helps-good luck.

Here in northcentral Wisconsin the fields are still covered with snow. The maple syrup season is just winding down.Todays temps are in the 50's, tomorrow will be in the 60's. Will not be in the fields for a while.

Several orders for spraying and Fertilizer in the morning. If the rain is light this weekend H$!! will break loose by Monday. Ammonia is picking up also. AHHH retail you start with the first fast ones and get done with the slowest and last ones.

Heard of 300 acres of corn going in north of Ankeny, IA yesterday on the radio. Rained pretty hard last night so that will keep people out of the field.

Several started corn mid week in our area. Rain forcasted this weekend. We plan to start Monday if it does not rain hard. Our oats are just coming up, they could use a rain. Beleive it or not, we are getting dry here.

D17Jim, Started raining over here between Remington and Rensselaer about 7:45 fast time. That puts a stop to me discing my 5 acres of corn stalks so we(my neighbors Eric Clark and Darrell Dunlap) can plow them. There's so much fodder still left on the ground even tho I disced them last fall that it would be iffy to plow without it. I have a 73 (3X16 Eric has a 63 and Darrell has an Oliver 3X16 he pulls with his U Moline) With all that horse it shouldn't take more than two or three days to plow 5 acres!!!
I drive a tender truck for Vision Ag in Rensselaer and we have also been busy on dry days in between the wind and wet. We don't supply NH3, and I'm glad of that, but do 28%. Here's hoping you have a good and safe season!!!

Dipstick, Having lived near Goodland from 72-83 I know the soils up there and even though you are farther north you usually start before our clay ground is ready. I service some sandy soil closer to the Wabash but they have just got a good start. Saftey first guys it always gets done !!

Neighbor west of me a couple of miles has 700 acres planted and a little farther south, heis done 1080 acres, We wont start until after the 12th or later. Only have 340 acres.
