Guys, I have a picker and would love to grow field corn and use my old picker someday. Thing is, I gotta have a market for the ear corn. I don't have critters to grind it up and feed it to. In your areas, what does everyone use ear corn for anymore? Is it worthwhile to pick or not? Dad always told me any hobby won't make you money, but would be nice to have a customer that wanted ear corn for a decent price in my own local area. Might be wishful thinking though!

Around here yes. Just watch out which hybred you plant. Some is made to shell off the cob easily and doesn't work too well in a picker.

There is a market for 4or 6 ears bagged up in a clear plastic bag for squirrel food. Places like pet food stores and Tractor Supply, etc. sell them for a few bucks. Don't know how many bags you could sell but it sure would bring in a lot more per ear then as cow feed.

Don't know if still buying but I've been told Anderson's at Maumee, Ohio bought ear corn and paid a 35-40 cent premium.

squirrel corn here too. 5-6 ears in clear plastic bag sells for about $5.

I raise 6+ acres each year. 1000+ bu.
Feed most of it, but have no trouble selling all I want to.
In the next week or so I have got to pick 4-5 acres for someone else.
I have a 708 uni with a 4N head. It makes picking easy.
Have a few people buy 5-10 bu to feed to their horses. By eating it off the cob, it gives the horse something to do.
