Looks good! It's amazing how similar the rear housing/hydraulic controls look like a 180 :-) Any idea of what was mounted up front at 1 time? Can see where bracketry was bolted on once;loader maybe?

Are you kidding? That piece is in excellent shape for sitting in the woods for 10 years! A Tractor that sits in the woods round' here for 10 years wouldn't have anything left for sheetmetal on it, muffler rotted off and an engine full of water! As the guys said, great save! Looks like someone upgraded it to an "SI" series Alternator at one time. That's a nice machine. Good Luck! If you need a wiring system for that beauty, give us a jingle or drop us an e-mail... Yes there was some type of equipment mounted at one time but the gentleman I rescued it from was unaware as to what it was. The guy who owned it originally farmed corn with it. Then when he became the local police chief they used it to level the dirt roads in town. It was shed stored for most of its life and only sat outside until the new owner got it. He remembers the tractor from when he was six years old and rode the fender several time, he only used it for a year or two then parked it. It has a set of BF Goodrich silvertown tires on the rear front tires are shot. not sure if I can salvage the rears. First is to get the carb rebuilt and running.

My d10 was ordered in 1962 with 14 inch tires without spinouts and they were Goodrich silvertown, ( still have them)I'll bet that is a pretty low hour tractor. Keep us posted

Goodrich Silvertowns would be original - right? It’s original paint looks like a rubbing compound might produce a shine again? What year is it?

It appears someone has changed the radiator shroud in the past as it has holes in it for headlights and the series III and IV shrouds had no holes.

Maybe the tractor will be as he described it to you. I would have doubts. I know for an absolute fact that he agreed to sell it to a guy from Tennessee nearly 2 weeks ago for $1000... And apparently when you offered more money he backed out and sold it to you for $1500. The seller finally admitted that to the original buyer over the phone. Just my opinion, but If he does business that way, I would be hard pressed to believe his story on what he had for sale.

K. Let me explain it so maybe anyone can understand. I do know the original buyer, so I can tell you he was ready to send a down payment immediately and pay the rest in cash when he picked the tractor up. The seller agreed to sell the tractor as it was, non-running. When the buyer asked if he had a way to load it, The seller said to give him a little time to air up the tires, move what was behind it, and make room to winch it on the trailer when the buyer arrived to pick it up. After a week, during which time he found out that the motor would turn over,the seller called and wanted more time because he thought he might get it started so it could be driven on the trailer.This past Sunday night he left a voicemail with the buyer saying he had gotten it to start and run on brake cleaner long enough to back it up 5 feet and air up the tires but it had a broken fuel line so no gas could be put in it... Therefore it would not run long enough to drive it around. When the buyer called him Monday morning in response to the voicemail, he changed his story and said that he had poured fuel in it on Sunday and that he had driven it around all afternoon.. And that while he was driving it beside the road, someone that was driving by stopped and asked if it was for sale... and then offered him $1500 and he just couldn't refuse the extra $500.... So he sold it to him. Don't get me wrong, I think it is a good buy at $1500 if that is in fact what he gave for it. I can also tell you that the original buyer is not upset that he didn't get the tractor. I just posted my original post to let whoever bought it know that the seller was not very trustworthy... But that is just my opinion due to the fact that I knew the details of the agreement with the original buyer...and from what I have read on this part of the forum, alot of the posts are someone's personal opinions.

I was communicating with the owner via email. I offered the guy $1000 and he said he had an offer of $1100 and offered $1200. I never saw it running down the road or gave him $1500 seeing as how he live 2 hours from me. Hell I've never even been to the town he was in. From what you tell me in your post some of it jives with what he was telling me. If its not true well shame on him for the story to make a sale. Sorry your buddy was mislead by the guy and missed out. I hate used car salesmen. I thought the background on the tractor was kind of neat and thought I would share. To bad there was no way to verify it. My post was not meant to stir up a big pot of trouble here, but just to relay my find and what I thought was some good history.

I just hope the tractor is a good one for your sake. I personally think you got a good deal. I think from what I know that the seller played everybody and was not completely honest with anybody. At any rate, good luck with the tractor.
