Just got back from a week and a half on the farm that I have with my son in southern Iowa. Spent most of my time working with my son on the D-17 and a Wd-45.
D-17 When I arrived he told me that the D-17 had started to not hardly want to run and then would not even start anymore. We checked the plugs after cranking and they were dry. Talked to Steve at B&B and he said to go all the back to the source. Followed his advice and pulled and cleaned gas tank(put a chain in it),cleaned gas line, put in an in-line filter, bead blasted & rebuilt the carb. Reassembled; started right up, and runs great now.
WD-45 WE saved this tractor from being scrapped about 5 years ago, and it's sat in our tractor shed since then. Probably sat out in a fence row at least 5 years before that. Had dead alternator and sphagetti for wiring, but engine was not stuck. My son tried to start several years ago with no success. I had nearly the entire electrical system ordered ahead of time from Steve@B&B. We repeated what we had done to the fuel system on the D-17 & replaced the sediment bowl. Installed Steve's alternator conversion package, wiring harness, instrument panel components, coil, points, condenser, rotor, cap, coil & plug wires, & new plugs. Put in new battery & gas and tried to start. Got 1 large backfire. So checked the timing which my son had not been able to do by himself. It was off by about 90 degrees. This time we barely hit the starter and it fired right up. What a great feeling; especially since we had done it together. Checked all the fluids which he had already changed previously. Took it and drove it around in the field. Amazing that everything seems to work very well. Motor runs great, transmission all works & is quiet, no noise from the rear end, hydraulics work. Another WD-45 saved from the scrapper that has new life & will serve us well on the farm.
I want to thank Steve@B&B for all of his help on the phone and especially for the extra effort he was willing to do to get the parts out to the farm quickly so that they were there in time for us to use while I was there. I would really recommend his 12 volt conversion kits as they have everything you need & the directions are easy to follow with all of the wires numbered. Just hook up the wires where the numbers on the directions say to. Again, thanks Steve Jim ( I did enjoy the grandchildren also )

Just remember Steve is our resident expert on all things electrical. As you found out Steve's is very knowledagable in all areas of restoration since he restores tractors himself.
Delighted to hear you have your units working.
Good Luck!
