I am converting my WD-45 to 12 volt and am looking for a alt. that will fit between the grill and power steering belt? I don't want to cut the grill / hood!

This question came up a few weeks ago. To me it looked like Steve in NJ makes one of the best mounting kits to install a GM 10SI on a WD45. No cutting required.

Thanks Bri! Here's a pic of our WC/WD/WD45 frame rail mounting bracket. Our CNC machined towers are designed to lift the Alternator above the radiator grille shell without cutting a thing if so desired. I also designed it to move forward or reward, and also the rear mounting hole is slotted so you can pitch the rear of the Alternator either out or in to dial-in the Alternator dead on with the other pulleys. This eliminates the pre-mature wear of the front Alternator bearing. Kit runs $48. bucks + the Postman and is used with the stock front OEM "dog leg" adjusting bracket shown in the pic. Steve@B&B

Do you make one for a B? I'm missing everything on that side and I want to go with an alternator and I'm not sure what to use. The alternator on my WD45 looks too big.

Looks like a great setup but my problem exists with the way the power steering belt is routed. I don't have the clearance for a big alternator. This is why I am thinking a small unit would fit better in my application. If anyone has done this, could you post pics.

Tom, If you're limited to room, the pint size "CS" series Alternator's case is much smaller than its "SI" cousin. The CS will bolt up the same, take the Gennie pulley, and may work better for you. We have the CS series Alternators on the shelf or you can go into the Auto Parts store and get a unit. These came on your 90's GM vehicles. Only problem you'll have is they may whack ya with a core charge because you don't have a core to turn in. I don't charge core charges on Alternators because I'm a rebuilder and have the chassis'. Sometimes you may find a counter guy that's easy and will take another type Alternator as a core. Sometimes they let ya slide. An option would be a bone yard. The CS series Alts are a tad different from its CS cousin, so hook-up is a little different. If you do go that way, let me know once you get it and I'll explain how to wire it, or if you want, I can fix you up with the wiring needed..... Ed- Yes I do offer an Alternator bracket kit for the B,C,CA model tractors. Runs $48. bucks for the kit. At present, I'm out of them and have to make more. I haven't had a chance to make more of them because of my work load with Mags, Carbs, and wiring systems lately... Steve@B&B |

here is the smaller CS series mounted on a B motor. I made a bracket to bolt to the original two holes in the engine block.

the alternator actually sets in front of the bracket and has a long 7/16 bolt, maybe 7 inches that goes thru the alternator, then thru two mounting plates of the bracket. there is a spacer tube between the plates and the bolt goes thru that. use a nyloc nut on the back.
