I just purchased my first Model G and I'm thinking of converting it to Electric or a diesel. Any insight is much appreciated! I've seen several electric conversion and am concerned about power and charge length. I haven't seen much about diesel conversion though.

I think it's on its last leg. I'll need to do a major rebuild next summer. That's why I'm curious if I'm better off doing the major rebuild, diesel or electric.

Depends on whether you wear birkinstock sandals, when you drive it.  All these greenie-weenies say convert to electric, when rebuilding the original motor is easiest, and most cost effective.  So you convert a gas motor to an electric(coal powered) system. you really haven't done a damned thing to save the environment, especially when you consider that an active volcano puts out more pollution in a second, than all of our internal combustion engines now running, combined!  http://www.flyingbeet.com/electricg/1images/index1.jpg

Don't let the naysayers discourage innovation.
Electric cars were the norm at the turn of the century...Buick Electrics are still on the road..
A friend has one and drives it at local car shows.

AllisChalmers built a fuel cell powered tractor in the mid 50's. I wrote my high school science paper on that research. Those fuel cells ended up on the moon with NASA.

I built a 48v German built out board powered electric 22' pontoon boat that we use ever summer...a couple solar panels charge it all weeks and on the week ends it runs two to three hours....
Unless you are running all day I would guess an Electric G would handle a normal garden.

I am rebuilding four G tractors and am short one engine...It cost 2k to totally rebuild an N62 Continental engine for the G. Most of the internal parts are available..but blocks and heads are G only.
I am planning on doing an electric conversion on the future.
Internet search will show several conversions and one company is selling the bolt on adaptor plate....looks very easy.

One guy had the batteries mounted so that the hood still fits...The power controller replaces the throttle..so no gearing has to be changed.

Please keep Posting....and maybe we can flush out a group that will collaborate the electric conversion effort.
That what this site is for...right?
