I have a Model G and have just snapped the rear axle. Does anyone know where i might find a replacement? Also any pointers on this repair would be greatly appreciated.

I think I have sourced the axle. I have the service manual. (Thanks to this forum!) After disassembling the broken side i discovered that the splined end that is in the diff. is what snapped off. The broken piece is still in the diff. Does anyone have any thoughts on how one might get this part out? I am thinking of removing the other side ( axle, housing, etc.) and trying to push the stub of the broken axle out the other side. Any thoughts?

Small cylindrical magnet? Drill a hole and run in a self tapping screw or tap it for a standard thread to give something to grab and pull? Stick a welding rod to the stub though that might stick the splines. Dentil pick on the outside of a spline? Maybe a couple? Drill two holes and use medical forceps or needle nose pliers to pull? Tap the housing with a hammer and shake it out, or tilt it and tap to shake it out?

I broke one on my G a few years ago. I got a new one, not used, from a salvage company. It appeared to have work hardened and shattered.
I don't remember having any trouble getting the broken parts out of the differential. The big problem I had was getting the brake drum off the broken axel. It is a press fit with a very large Woodworth Key in it. I made a puller and used a torch and it would not come off. I finally cut the axel off inside the drum with a cutoff wheel in my die grinder and then bored the axel until it collapsed inside the drum. And then did the same thing at the wheel bearing. I've heard since that most just destroy the drum and put a new one on.

Go to any farm supply store that carries livestock supplies and purchase a cow rumen magnet, tape it to a wooden dowel and you will be able to pull the broken axel stub out.

Still working on removing the sheared stub from the differential. I guess when it sheared it flared out a bit and it will not easily slide out by use of a magnet or any easy way. I had to take the other axle off and am having to ram it out with a punch from the back side. Almost had it out but my punch bent. I am having to make a new punch and try again tomorrow.
I have located an axle and it is on it's way. (thankful)
I managed to beat the longer portion of the broken axle out of the brake drum. Key in tact. i have not been able to remove the bearing from the end of the axle yet but will try somethings tomorrow. I am thinking about looking for a shop that has a bearing separator that might be able to pull it for me and press it onto the new axle.

Matt, remember that there is a pressed on collar holding the bearing on the axle if you need it Bearing - 6008rsj inner seal at brake assy - NAPA 11800 outer seal at bearing- National 450076 or NAPA #17484 if you mess up the collar, it's a AGCO supplied part - 70800165 SandyLake has them & I think Norm keeps them too

Matt, Heat the shrink collar a little. Turn it upside down and whack it on something solid. It will come off then. HTH Tracy Martin

MAN! You guys are great. This is certainly the most supportive forum around.
Hopefully I will not need the new seals or bearing but it is good to know where to get the stuff if I do. I will try the heat as well.

I am in the process of putting the rear axle on my G back into its housing. I am wondering if the rear axle collar is the same as the bearing clamp ring? I am a little confused by the drawing in the service manual. Thanks.
