 Topic: Allis DISK

My son is disking with a 9 foot Allis disk, and is not happy, he says it is leaving mounds of soil following the outside disk blades, creating ruts the length of the field. How should the disks be set?? the front ones now form a v pointing away from the drawbar and the back ones form a v pointing towards the drawbar. Is there a better setting???

Is it a pre set wheel disc. They will leave a small rut. If the disc is set to deep on the back gang, level the disc out buy turing the crank in to drtop the front of the disc. I don't disc much anymore,since I use a finisher. I use to pull a drag behind my disc to cover that little rut. Roger

Sounds like a disc to me. Some are better than others but most all ridge at least some. Count you blessin you don't a Deere disc.

Neighbor has a Deere, leaves a nice little hill to plant taters in as he discs out a field, the Massey 520 I bought & rebuilt has it's own issues but not to that extent. I still have to pull a drag behind it or have the other neighbor bring down his finisher.

Speed and depth are the biggest things i've found to make or not make a ridge.

Does it have shaft extensions on the outside, with another blade bolted on, that is about 4" smaller in diameter than the main disk? That is what our 2300 has on it, and it leave almost no ridge, to the point if you are double disking the field, you can't see where you have been at times.

We had a Allis disc years ago and loved it till she was just plain wore out pulled a drag behind it. Then we bought a JD that only made it one year because just what others said it made hills. Now we have a MF 52 that is all right but not like the allis. I think my sc disk dose the same job. But anyway a drag 2 feet bigger then the disk helps alot. I thought what Orange blood is say would be a good set up. Never had one like it but I think that would be the way to go.

Try shifting down a gear or throttling back some, my 45 plays with my 8' snap coupler disk. It doesn't ridge when disking stalks, it can barley cut todays corn stalks. LOL But it will ridge in worked ground and bean stubble.

like orange blood said, the smaller disc on the end of the gangs will cure it. I don't know exactly how you would get this set up though, I'm not sure if Allis offered it as an option your model disc or not. Darrel

decrease the angle of the V in the front gangs and adjust the tilt (forward to aft) so that the rear gang runs a little deeper. I agree with others that a disc leaves a little furrow but I think you are saying his is excessive. There is always going to be a little furrow on the outsides and a small ridge in the middle. Most folks use a drag or some sort of smoother board on the rear to knock all of that down. I agree about the smaller discs on the end too.
