Hi all,
I'm hoping someone might be able to give me some insight-
My G has never seemed to have a creeper gear, but after reading this forum (especially this discussion: https://www.allischalmers.com/forum/g-creeper-gear_topic6770.html)
I went ahead and pulled the shifter lever out to see if I could get it working.  Couldn't figure it out, so I pulled the shift mechanism off (so I could see in from the side).  Got the creeper shift rail moved back, put it together, but seemed like the tractor was stuck in gear no matter what. 
I'm realizing that I probably wasn't careful in putting everything back together, and the forks perhaps weren't connected properly to the shift gears... So now I'm trying again and again, but I can't seem to get it functioning again.  So what did I do wrong?  I was assuming I should manually slide the shift gears into (what I think is) the neutral position - is that right?  Any other tricks to getting everything back together properly?

Everything needs to be in the neutral detent position, with the shift lever out, and the shifter assembly out of the transmission, move the creeper shift rail forward just until
you hear the detent, you may need to pull it all the way to the rear and then push it forward if you're not used to where it should be, then with the shifter assembly in your hand move the two rails until they detent into the center position. then bring the shifter up to the side of the case and move the two shifting collars on the gear shafts to match the location of the forks on the shifter. If you can't get the collars to move, you may need to rock the tractor a bit to get the load off the gears. Shift forks should slide right in if lined up correctly, no force should be needed. Now you can put the shift lever back down and secure it down. Hopefully I've left nothing out, and this makes some sense to you

yeah...it's one of those 30-30 deals, goes in right in 30 seconds OR you spend 30 minutes to do it.....then wonder WHY did it take so long......

I think I was able to get it back in correctly (ran out of time to test it), but let me ask one question just so I have a better understanding of everything.
What do you mean, @JoeM, about pushing the two rails until they detent into the center position?  As far as I can tell, the rails are stationary (with the exception of the creeper gear rail) and it's only the shifting collars that slide.  Am I wrong?

I was referring to the two rails that are in the shifter assembly with the forks attached that control 1,2,3 and reverse
If ya got it in, and it shifts, all is good,

Just wanted to say thanks, all!  First couple of times I put it together I must have not been fitting the collars back in correctly.  Did it with a bit more precision, and it works great.  Plus I've now got a creeper gear, so I've got that going for me, which is nice.
