Now on a rebuilt engine that is free of sludge wouldn't you think a detergent oil would be better to keep the engine clean.

You don't have to answer. LOL

And we can't forget the benefits of racing oil over on road auto oil with these tractor engines.

Ammeter give more useful information than a voltmeter.A voltmeter is easier to install but can give misleading information depending on where its connected. Either gives more diagnostic information than a generator light. The best charging voltage is a function of the battery temperature and the difference between good charging and poor charging is small, smaller than the pointer width of some analogue voltmeters or the accuracy of low cost digital voltmeters.

None detergent oil is abuse of an engine, no matter when it was made. Other additives with the detergent also slow down bearing corrosion. Car engines in the non detergent era lasted about 30,000 miles between major overhauls needing cylinders bored, rings, and crankshaft bearings. With modern detergent oils and engine designs, car engine wear is rarely a problem. Detergent oils can make the sludge build up characteristic of non detergent oils move to places you don't want it. But detergent oils will keep an engine clean once it is clean.

That's about 100% using the actual prices.

He is not talking shipping and taxes.
Ok for Pete's sake you didn't ever have to run a business either. Here is the math test for ya Jeff.
If MR. D pays 20 dollars for his inventory stock and pays 10 dollars to have it shipped to his warehouse, what is his profit percentage if he sells the product for 40 dollars? I'll help you out here, Mr D's sale price is what percentage of his cost. The answer is not 100%.

We're not talking profit % just base cost.
One is 100% more than the other.

It is 100% more to the customer.
I don't care what their profit percentage is.
I don't care what their shipping cost are.
If one sells for 20.00 and one sells for 40.00 the one selling for 40.00 is marked up 100% over the 20.00 one.
That's the bottom line to the customer. COST!!!

There used to be a good market for Neil Yerigan's magneto book when it was out of print and hard to find. Once it got reprinted, the bottom fell out of that market too.

I belive if a retailers cost is $10 dollars and they sell the item for $20 that is referred to as a 50% mark up.

Come on you guy's, why do you think people list items on Ebay? I'm sure it's not to give everyone a fair chance! It's so that they can hopefully get as much for it as possible. No one has ever come up to me and said you paid me too much, I will give you some back. Walmart sells identical items for different prices in different areas depending on competition in the area. That particular book you are talking about, has been all over the place on price through the years. I bought my copy many years ago for 12.95 and so should it still be 12.95 at todays prices? I think it would be wise to not destroy the few merchants that we have that sell us parts for old Allis Chalmers tractors. They quit making them in 1985 and you can still get important parts for them, because of people that choose to be a help and sell parts.
