I have the chance to buy a black belly 7000 with low hours and in good shape. My question is are there any problems with these machines that i should look out for? Also does anyone use theirs for haying? Since i'm a small farmer it's going to inherit a lot of jobs such as pulling a 9 foot disc mower conditioner, small square baler, 2 row corn picker etc. I know i could use my 45 for most all these but i would like a tractor with a cab for hauling manure in the winter. Also is it rated around 100hp? I'm thinking the tractor is overkill for what i want to use it for but for the same price should i buy something like a 185 or the 7000? sorry this is long but thanks for any input!!!!!

Dad has one. Deceint tractor, I guess. I think it's basicaly a 200 with 7000 series cab, etc. The worst thing with it is the T handle shifter. Not sure if it's just dad's tractor or what, but the thing moves and turns pretty stiff. Takes a strong wrist to move it, especially in the cold. Also, very hard to get in gear when the tractor is cold. I think they have a trany brake in them, but it must not have survived very well. Dad has used his for a lot of what you are wanting to do, including pulling wagons, planting, tillage, general farm work. Tough engine, cab is very quiet. It'd do what you want just fine.

You need new cable(s) if the T handle is hard to shift. Very fuel efficient tractor. Black Belly has a wet clutch and a few other different things that being the biggest difference.

They do shift hard when it is cold but they are a good tractor. We round bale with it, pull a 16 foot disc, pull a 13 foot digger and it does fine.

Good tractors but for a few dollars you can get a 7010 which is a great tractor. 7000 is a glorified 200 , 7010 has tremendous hydraulics better transmission and is just over built in all areas. Our 7010 has 12000 hours on it and is still going strong. HTH Steve

So here is an update, the tractor has 2,300 original hours. It has been used lightly it's whole life for haying and hauling manure. The paint is faded but tractor has always been shedded. Rear tires 50% and fronts shot. 2 hyd outlets, block heater, cab glass all good. only thing that doesn't work is the radio. He's asking 6,500. whatcha guys think?

I got one, and I've liked it. You have to remember there's a pretty big weight jump between the 7000 and 7010, so if compaction is a concern, that may be something to consider. But, like the others have said, the 7010 is even more over built than the 7000 for the power it has. That being said, I've never heard of a 7000 blowing anything in the rearend up, and mine's been good. I just overhauled the engine this summer, and the 301 ain't the cheapest engine to work on, but it's done and good for a very long time. The only reason I would ever go to a 7010 would probably be for the powershift transmission, but the cost of transmission rebuild kind of scares me, and with my luck, I feel like I'd be destined to get a 7010 that was a lemon or something and would spit out it's transmission's guts as soon as I got it lol. If I were you, I'd buy the tractor that seems best taken care of for the money. It's no better for you in your situation to buy a 7010 that needs an engine overhaul and pay the same price as a 7000 that will run for many hours most likely without any major work needed. Hope that makes sense.
