I found a allis c near my area. The paint is really good and it runs but has a leak in the radiator. It about a three hour drive from me. Everything looks pretty good over all. They want 900 for the tractor. Is it worth that or should I offer less beings I would have to get it transported and get a radiator. Opinions?

Is it a standard narrow front C? If it is, I would try to negotiate the price to cover radiator repair. A worst case could be a new radiator.

I kinda depends how rare the C is around your area.If they are scarce then I would say you dont have much room to push but if there are alot of them around then I would try 600 and maybe meet at 750.

Is that 3 hours 'round trip' or one way ? Sounds like you'ld hire someone to do the hauling ($$$ ??? ). To me $900 is too much,if rad's leaky what else is 'gone' ?
I'd subtract transport costs and $200 for the rad
Have you run/driven it for more than 10 minutes?Maybe needs water pump or other things? Water in oil...oil in water ?? Do you have a 'spare parts' tractor.
The best I'd offer is $500,even then the 'bank' would have something to say !!

I would say it depends where the leak is located. If the leak is not in the core it can be fixed without a lot of cost. If the core is not damaged you can have it boiled, roded and reassembled and it will out last a new one ten times over. A new radiator will rot out with time and I have not seen any undamaged radiators from that time period that rotted out.
Always offer less even if you think it is way cheap. That is just protecting you bank account. I would say that 900 would be a fair price if you are not looking at engine, bearing, seal repair or tire replacement.

A wide front or a SFW C would interest me more at 9. Tires and rims? What shape are they in?

I bought a new Rad on Epay earlier this yr for 125.00 and it actually looks good and isn't paper thin. Most are for sale for much more but I just kept my eye out for a better deal.

The assumption you need to make is that "said politically correctly", they don't know how to adequately convey the condition to you. Or, bluntly, "They lie".... Assume you are going for a nice 3 hour drive in the country, and you will feel refreshed when you get back.
IF, you happen to buy a tractor, that's just icing on the cake! Edited by GlenninPA - 09 Sep 2011 at 1:31pm |

Good judgment comes from experience. Experience comes from bad judgment.
From listening comes wisdom and from speaking comes repentance. Wise men learn more from fools than fools from the wise. |
