When doing some troubleshooting, I pulled the cap off the distributor to look at the points and there is a plastic cap. Does this cap just pop off somehow? I didn't want to force it. I have the delco remy. This is on a 55 B. ![]() |

After the rotor is removed, the dust cover should lift off. They can get a little stuck over time. ![]() |

Thanks! I have a few more questions. 1. The rotor that came with my tune up kit from Steiner does not look exactly like the one that's in there. The existing rotor has and extra metal tab that goes off to the left. I don't have a pic right now, but are they interchangeable? 2. Where do I put the grease that came with the kit? Thanks Again

I would call Steiner and make sure they sent the right package. That smelly stuff does happen to the best of them now and then. Also it my be the new ac-dc do all part now that works for many diff setups and nobody has experience with it.

If it is a small pack of grease it is likely to lube the cam where the rubbing block of the points run. A little will do as you don't want it to throw into the contacts of the points.

Yeah, Steiner may have sent you an IGN kit for a MAG tractor, you would have to have told them your tractor has been converted to distributor

I bought, from an old time A.C. dealer, a new rotor for one of my Allis's and it was different from the old one. The parts guy said that the old one was not the right one.

If the rotor fits the shaft and points in the same direction as the old one relative to the flat, maybe it's just a newer design.

The long hook on the rotor was to keep the engine from kicking back while hand cranking. I don't know if anybody makes them anymore.
The grease goes on the distributor shaft where the contact is made to open the points. |
