Admittedly, I'm being lazy as it is ice cold where my Allis A is stored.  Does the magneto rotate counterclockwise when viewed from the tractor seat?  Hope someone knows where it is warm.

No, it is clockwise when veiwed from the rear however the standard way to determine rotation is looking at the drive lugs. Thus the A magneto is a CCW type, not CW which is opposite of every other A-C engine.

Before I messed with the ignition system for a paint job, the previous owner had labelled the plug wires and arranged them on the magneto cap in a 1-3-4-2 pattern in  a CCW rotation.  So the rotation is, as you said, opposite other AC engines which move around the cap CW.  thanks.

Actually, I have not removed the magneto, just wires.  It has an American Bosch magneto on it.
