looking for a diagram for correct belt routing from PTO pully to mower deck (48 inch) on an Allis 919 Hydro lawn tractor.  Have had an issue with the 4L 78 belt coming off when mowing tall grass.  The old decal on the mower deck is missing.  Thanks for any help available.

Are you mowing that tall grass with the deck up high or at normal height?
Steves diagram is correct. Make sure your spring at the idler pulley is in good shape with good tension.

Deck belt is not a problem.  The belt from the PTO pully to the mower deck is the one coming off.

the drive belt ?  Dont see how you could put it on wrong... Belts that have a directional turn in them can get a TWIST and cause them to JUMP under load.. i have a WOODS mower that has that problem ever few years.

PTO belt will jump off for a few reasons. If I run my deck up high it will at times throw the belt in tall thick grass due to the added stress on the belt because of pulley alignment of the deck to the idler pulley. I have also had the bolt holding down the belt pulley on the deck work loose which allows the pulley to lift throwing the belt out of alignment. Also, if the tension pulley arm gets bent when the belt comes off that can also cause it. I have had that happen to my 917H over the past 35 years which is the same tractor with a 17 hp engine.

Assuming you have checked the spring at the rear pulley tension lever to make sure it is giving the belt good tension when the arm is in the tightened position?
I have also switched to Kevlar belts which last longer and don't stretch as bad.

Thanks for the info on kevlar belts.  Tension at drive pully spring looks good.  The PTO drive pully has two belt groves.  Should the belt that powers the deck be on the inboard grove and the outboard grove be used to power a rear attachment?

Yes, inboard pulley to mower deck and outboard pulley to tiller or rear attachment. By chance, have you gotten the PTO to mower deck belt reversed making blades turn wrong way?

Have you got the flat belt idler in the upper hole of bracket, it should face more towards center of tractor than the bottom hole? Bottom hole is used for snowblower.

Did it ever work. What has led up to this belt coming off.

Blades are turning in correct cutting direction.  Will check location of idler mounting to bracket.  Have only used this mower to cut lawn three times.  Did not have any belt problems until mowing taller grass when belt came off and was damaged by contacting bolt holding deck input pully in place.  Thanks for all the replies.  I will try a kevlar belt next.

Guess what I meant was have you been using the mower for years and all the sudden when you tried mowing the tall grass the belt came off.

We’re you trying to mow with deck raised up.

Or is this a fairly new to you mower.

Just trying to get a background. Weather something wore out or maybe something was put together wrong.

Want to try a simplicity belt 1713515sm

Those Kevlar belts are amazing. I put one on the ZT last Spring. I checked it this Spring before I started mowing and it looked like I'd just installed it!  Them things wear like iron.

When installing new Kevlar belt noticed that the V-grooved idler below drive pully had moved forward about a half inch.  After moving the V-grooved idler rearward away from flat pully idler, tension was increased, and mower worked great.
