So in a conundrum... Need to refill the Allis 400 loader's hydraulic sump. Also need to refill the Allis WD's hydraulic sump. The loader calls for 10wt not detergent. The WD calls for 20 wt non-detergent (since it's above 45F). I could go out and buy jugs of cheap 10wt and 20wt oil... Or, I could just go out and buy jugs and fill them with some universal hydraulic and transmission fluid rated for the J20C standard instead. What do people think, or what have you tried with good success?

Hy-tran fluid for both. As with all oils, the modern ones are much better than what they had back then. You can disregard most of what the old manuals say.

Like them all, but love the "B"s.

Sounds great, much appreciated ya'll. For reference, here's the loader in question -- as far as I know, this is a 445 loader... There's a pump installed in front of the crank and the hand crank is removed:
Here's the left hand side (fill spot and dip stick in top left tower): Right hand side: Seat view (reservoir appears to be on bottom right of frame rail in this shot): View of the front of the tractor: |
