Nathan,

Norm Swinford lists 7 models of running gears in his AC Farm Equipment book:

305, 405, 505, 605, 701, 1001 plus a model 500 which is a 5th wheel steer wagon.  Though not listed in the book, I have a 501 (five ton) and a 601 (six ton).  There may be other models also (?).  The model numbers are typically stencil-type numerals located on the right-rear corner brace of the frame.

They did use serial number tags.  The ones I have seen are always found on the rear-facing end of the back crossmember.  Here's a picture, the s/n plate is just to the right of the "Allis Chalmers" decal:

A-C's currently on the farm: B, CA, 2 D-17 D's, One Eighty, ass't implements.
