Our company is offering this unit up for sale. Any ideas what the engine is (or what it will fit into)

I'd say 210/220 because of the TO-4 "B" turbo and I think a deep oil pan with crank driven pump?? ...might be a place for tractor hydraulic pump to mount??

I just got some info on the engine. They say the tag says Model # 3500. Order number is 1-7451-63281
They said it needs a rebuild because of some bad blow by and water in the oilpan
No one has bid on it yet. It is a 600.00 starting bid. What do you guys think??

On one that vintage they only had two Orings on the sleeves....that'd be my guess.....as long as they didn't spin a crank brg from not catching it soon enough, it should be an inexpensve fix.

My opinion is that gensets of this size and quality are bargains beyond all belief! People frequently go out and buy little air-cooled rattletraps, and pay way too much to have them hooked to silly little emergency panels, when they could've had much more substantial machines suitable for whole-house transfer... for much less money. Yeah, larger machine uses more fuel, but if you live in a location where cold winters occur, you can win BACK most of that fuel-consumption penalty by tapping the cooling system, and diverting from radiator to a heat-exchanger, and pipe hot water into the house for heating, thus getting bettern' twice the energy recovery from each gallon of fuel burned. That's exactly what I do with my trio of generators.
Windings in that generator head are made of the best copper on earth, the genhead can likely be wired for any power output you'd like... single or three phase, 208/125Y, 120/240, 480/277Y, 230 Delta... whatever suits you best... and it has serious protection circuitry and durable electronics, not something that'll blow up and die when an electrical storm strikes close-to-home. Even with a marginal engine, $600 is a hard pricetag to beat... |
