Saved an AC Plow from the scrap dealer. Nice three point plow can anyone tell me what model it is? Did this plow make a nice job? are parts still available? Jim  |

what kind of job did they do? Is this an AC plow you would clean up and do a little plowing with others on a plow day.

It is a model 83 plow frame. Plow bottoms were sold separately from the frames for different soils and conditions. I can't tell what plow bottoms they are. Need a number from the moldboard, frog, or share to be able to look them up.
You can find the parts catalogs for the plow frame and the plow bottoms at www.grandpastractors.com/phpBB3/index.php the upper case is required.
The 80 plow frame can be used for two different widths of plow bottoms and has the spring trip shanks. The 70 has the same adjustable width but came without spring trip shanks, though the parts book shows spring trip shanks to retrofit a 70 and a 60. The rigid shanks of the 60 and 70 used the same bolt holes in the frame bars as the spring trip shanks. The 60 was not adjustable width, and the 50 had straight instead of angled rigid shanks.
It WILL plow and plow decently unless the plow shares are worn completely out. It may need some help scouring if the shares and moldboards are rusty. Plowing some sand is a quick way to shine them up. They usually have such a hard surface that a flap wheel on a 7" grinder will only remove rust, it won't grind away the steel under the rust so you can put on a polish fast that way, then protect it with a soft plow paint or just any cheap spray paint that the dirt will take off in a few hundred feet of plowing. Grease works if you keep it inside and plow with it every year. Grease won't stay on the plow bottoms in the hot summer sun. Some get buy with used motor oil but only if the plow is inside all the time. Cheap spray paint is faster and cleaner to apply.

If you can get parts depends on what bottoms are on the plow . If the shares and shins are good any AC plow does good. I'd like to get a 3pt mounted like that one of these days. Cup brush on a 4" grinder followed by a sanding disc before you take it to plow and it should scour well. Looks like Gerald beat me to the send button.

Thanks for the info guys. Calvin, I will give you an even trade for your four furrow snap coupler with the wheel out back. LOL. IT was going for scrap so I thoght I should save it. I have my other snap coupler plow which nees some parts. I should be able to make one good plow out of the two.

I out bid the iron man for my AC 4x16 2000 monoframe plow about 12 years ago. When I went to the auction site to pick it up I saw the piles of sl*g where he cut up the JD plows sold next to it.

I dropped into a plow wrecker today and found out my three furrow AC plow is a later version with 16'' frame larger style boards and 16'' shears. He said this plow actually did a decent job. I can still get all the parts I need including the rear depth wheel and extra support beam that bolts on across the frame.
