    Posted: 31 Oct 2018 at 12:27pm
I have a 1956 Allis Chalmers model IB with a hydraulic lift snow plow. I couldn't find any straight 20w oil, as is specified in the manual, but I bought some TSC Traveller ISO 46 for this purpose. It states on the jug that it is SAE 20 equivalent. Does anyone have any experience with this product or any reason I should not use it? Thank you.

that will be fine.. actually better quality than old 20 wt motor oil.. These days many people use Universal Tractor FLuid... similar to HyTrans ........ hydrauilic / transmission fluid. It is a general purpose fluid that is common on many tractors, if you  use a disc / etc and couple a remote hydraulic cylinder to your tractor.
Like them all, but love the "B"s.

Thanks, Steve. I goofed up and put some synthetic oil in it and when the weather got real cold, the hydraulics failed to operate. Dang, just when I needed it most.

Was trying to upload a picture of the tractor, but all I could see was text. The file size seemed within prescribed limit. Any help?

I have an IB with a 3 point / hydraulics... If it sets in the winter at 0- 10 degrees, sometimes it takes a few minutes for the hydraulics to start working.. I turn the PTO on and let is spin for a couple minutes to churn up the oil.. eventually it will start working.. I have 20 wt UTF in it.

Mine has gotten slow in extreme cold - even before I tried the synthetic stuff. But, last season while operating the plow, it went down and wouldn't come back up. So, that's why I'm changing the fluid.

Thanks for the response.

I'll try a short video from the Gathering of the Orange in Oakley, MI 2017: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z_0jBreDz3M&t=6s
