OK - so work is continuing on the HD4 - am guessing but not for sure -  that AC's Industrial Division went to Nelson for the mufflers for the OEM selection similar to the farm equipment side.  When I purchased the machine the discharge from the exhaust was straight piped. When I asked about the muffler  the previous owner said " it ran better that way".  I am pretty sure that the running problem was more injector and injection  pump timing rather than exhaust discharge through a muffler or straight pipe.

Having said that, I am looking to purchase an OEM NOS or good used muffler that I could use as a template to build my own.  The OEM P/N is 245446 and shows a center inlet with an offset right discharge.  According to the AC Model H-4 and HD4 Revised Parts Information manual TP-104-S1 there were no revisions to the OEM muffler part number so it looks like it was the same for the P/N for both the gas and diesel units throughout the production period.

Any guidance or sage advice regarding where I could secure a NOS or used muffler would be appreciated.

Respectfully,  ~ Orangeman

I would assume any 2200  4 cyl engine equipped equipment would share the same muffler...

Unfortunately, HD-4, 500 FL and 615 LBH are the only ones with the same engine. 6060, 6080, F, F2, F3, K, K2 and 880 had turbos and intercoolers, so exhaust would be different...Unhappy

Hi DiyDave:  What's interesting is the muffler inlet and discharge set up is very similar to arrangement used on the 170/175 but the body is shorter and sits under the hood.  Like these:https://www.allischalmers.com/forum/170-175-gas-nelson-mufflers_topic181876.html

Appreciate the insights ~ Orangeman
