AC B whine in PTO pulley

   Hey folks -
'49 AC B, with PTO running a Wood L59 mower deck.

Just replaced both bearings in the idler wheels and two spindles (left and right, center was replaced a few years ago). 

Now there is (or maybe there had been and I wasn't noticing it with ear muffs) a whine in the PTO when running the deck. No whine if I run the PTO with the belt off. Checked UTF - was low some, but filled it up, and no difference in whine. I can't tell if the whine is because of bearings on their way out, or the gear that drives the shaft is going to make noise because of how it's cut. Does a proper running setup make much noise? 

Also, watching a Youtube video, I see there's an oil tube that receives oil from the differential splashing it up in the PTO, so I suppose that tube could have dropped out. There is a little play in the shaft in and out.

	I would try listening to the PTO with a broomstick (or whatever, I usually use a BIG screwdriver just because it's handy). Try it with and without the belt installed, also the mower if you can access it safely.

	a whine in the PTO when running the deck. No whine if I run the PTO with the belt off. the noise goes away when you remove the belt... Are you SURE its the PTO box ? Maybe one of the two idler pulleys below the PTO housing ?

	not sure how deep you want to dig or how loud it is, getting the pto on and off the tractor is pretty simple (weights about 70lbs ) and the gasket very easy to make. The bearing on the end of the input shaft is NLA as is the leather seals for both the pulley and pto shafts. those can be over come with modern seals and speedy sleeves and i believe guys have been using some metric bearing thats close enough for the input shaft . i know the videos on the interweb make it seem easy to get apart but that has not been my experience. i used several blocks of wood of varying sizes and an air hammer after beating the snot out of it with brass punches for far to long. One could try to take up the End play on the PTO shaft by draining the oil and removing the rear cover thats the 4 bolts around the pto shaft and removing shims (they look and act as the gasket to that cover ) to attain "free rolling fit without end play" as per the manual. The belt shaft has internal shims .. might as well rebuild if you are gonna go that deep. might fix your problem ... might not
