well i am new to the forum. i just bought a 1940 allis chalmers b this evening for 350 bucks. it was an old show tractor and the guy said that one day he cam out to run it and there was water in the oil. so he drained it and what not. so i got it home put some oil in it and fired it up checked the water and it was gone. so i added 2 more gallons and it kept disapiring untill it started leaking out of the main seal in the front(i know the seal is gonna need replaced). any ideas on what it could be. cracked block? freeze plug? bad sleve?

I'd pull the valve cover and check the "freeze plugs" first...........

First ,I wouldn't run the engine with water in the oil.The "freeze plugs" in the top of the head rust out and let coolant drain down into the oil sump. I don't think you would lose 2 gallons there though. These plugs should be replaced when you work on a head cause they are very likely original.
I would bet you have bad o-rings on the bottom of a sleeve or sleeves to let that much water by. If you pull the pan off, put water in the radiator and pressurize the radiator to about 5 PSI you will be able to determine if the sleeves are leaking.

I suspect freezeplug, or (s) even a head gasket doesnt normally consume that much, is there vapor in the exhaust? use a tool to press up the radiator with the valve cover off to about 5-7 psi,Start and look for the stream, it will tell on itself. Another trick we use in the navy is to pour a dark colored green, or blue dye into the water, look for signs of leakage, when you find it, drop the oil pan and inspect your crank bearings, you never know how long it has sat, and the lobes sticking up on the crank not in the oil on the rotation could have had water corrode the journal, if it was MINE i would check to be safe . Hope it aint that bad.

Sounds like my Oliver 60 when I first brought it home. It had leaking sleeve o rings. I put "Liquid Glass" cooling system sealer in it so it could run until I gathered all the parts to overhaul it.

well i finaly had some time to take her apart and there was 2 freeze plugs where pushed out. so i replaced them and filled it up with water and then the block on top of the water pump was cracked. so ill have the final verdict on it tmr. thanks for all the info guys

JB Weld will probably fix a crack there if you run non-pressurized. You won't see it if the tractor is put together.
