I'm surprised the upper generator bracket is attached to the exhaust manifold as shown in the picture.  Is this correct?  Mine was mounted just like this as shown by the "L" shape I drew in red.  The ear on the exhaust manifold where this connection is made was cracked on mine.  I'm not surprised.  This doesn't seem like a good way to make this connection.  uploads/15483/Upper_Generator_Bracket.jpg

That is correct. Should not put any stress on the exhaust manifold unless the stud is loose in the block.

I just did some work on mine and that is exactly the same.
Everything is impossible until someone does it! WD45-trip loader 1947 c w/woods belly mower, 1939 B, #3 sickle mower 1944 B, 2 1948 G's. Misc other equipment that my wife calls JUNK!

Ok, thanks.  I still think it's a bad place to put this bracket.  I think, over time,  the vibration from the generator would fatigue the ear on the exhaust manifold......but maybe not.  Thanks again.  I'll proceed to put my new bracket back where the old one was.

You generator should be running smooth if it's vibrating you might want to get it to an overhaul shop before the armature contacts the field magnets and it self destructs. I converted my C and CA both to 12 volt alternators they don't even have upper brackets any longer. Just a lower bracket.
