I'd agree with tbran. I'd change the fluid and filters and run it.
When I was doing the filter changes on my new to me 7000 a few years back I found a whole bunch of big ugly in the sump. Based on the sealer on top of the transmission someone had obviously been in there.
When I bought the tractor the owner was 100% honest with what was wrong and what it needed, a transmission problem wasn't one of them.
A few weeks after I found the stuff I ran into the prior owner. First I stated very clearly that I knew I had bought the tractor as is, where is, and no matter how he answered I was still good with the deal and wouldn't be mad. I just wanted to know before I continued in case I needed to do some transmission work first. I told him I had found the big ugly when changing the fluid and asked if they had ever had any transmission issues. He said they had not and also guessed the original owner probably had and what I found was leftovers.
That was ~ 125 hours ago and everything works fine.
On a side note, the reason they took the tractor out of service was the PTO had started to slip. The hydraulic fluid I took out looked like a vanilla milk shake. I've only used the PTO for some light work since, but with new fluid and filters that too is working well.
