Hi guys,
I'm new to the forum. We're looking at buying an old AC 145 grader that has been sitting for a long time. ![]() We managed to get the old girl running which was a good start. It looks like no one had taken a grease gun to anything for years and several of the universal joints need replacing. My question is, does anyone know what size the cross/caps are for these machines? |

Just knock them apart and measure them, then go to the parts store and they'll have the measurements for a new one. Take the old one with you. Nice looking old machine.

Unfortunately the machine is over 100km away so we aren't able to easily get at the parts.
![]() The photos do it more justice than reality. It needs a fair bit of work & tlc. At some point in the past a Perkins engine out of a tractor was used to re-power it. This has created a few other problems to sort out as well. Still, if we can get it for a good price, it should do us ok hopefully. |

Are you are after the U-joints in the control shafts ?
We have an AC 45 and replacements for the originals on it are Hardy Spicer RUJ 1788 |

Sorry, I should have been more specific.
The UJ's on the control shafts. Specifically the ones that go onto the blade lift gearboxes and the circle rotation gearbox.

Thanks to everyone for your help.
![]() We had a little trouble matching part numbers with Australian suppliers, however we got it sorted. The Australian equivalent of the Hardy Spicer RUJ1788 is the closest match. Replacing the joints has been a fun exercise. We got the circle rotation one done without too much hassle. The blade lift is a different story. The yokes and retaining pins are rusted solid to the shafts. Even heat didn't help. We're having to rebuild those UJ's in the machine. We're going to cut the old spiders out with an angle grinder then knock the caps inwards to remove them. At least we got most of the engine work done. It's been re-powered with a Perkins engine. All the welch plugs were shot. To replace one plug the fuel pump had to come off. Luckily it all went well. With new filters and fluids, hopefully it will be a reliable machine. Few more items and plenty of grease pumped into all the dry fittings and it should be ready to work.
